Gas giants search for deposits in Poland
Posted February 1st, 2010 in Business news by Ela Pawełek-LuberaExxon, Mobil Lane Energy and Marathion Conoco Phillips are just some of the energy giants with concessions to look for oil and gas in Poland.
In the last two years, Poland has granted 30 companies with licences to search for gas. In the latest deal in December, the Environment Ministry said it had authorized U.S. oil company Chevron to explore natural gas deposits in Zamosc, eastern Poland.
The deal allows for Chevron and others to search for the shale type gas, asses how expensive it would be to access the energy but not to start digging it up.
If successful, Poland could finally shake off dependence on supplies from Russia, which it depends on for around 70 percent of its needs.
