Great prospects for WSE
Posted January 11th, 2010 in Business news by Ela Pawełek-LuberaThis will be a great year for the Warsaw Stock Exchange, claims its chairman Ludwik Sobolewski.
The next twelve months will see some spectacular debuts on the capital’s bourse with plans to invite successive big brokerage houses to cooperate as well. Among those that have already expressed interest is the Japanese bank Nomura.
According to Ludwik Sobolewski, 2010 will see the debut on the Warsaw bourse of such giants as the national insurance company PZU or energy giant Tauron. More companies from the energy sector will be listed there as well while WIG20 – the index of the twenty largest companies on the Warsaw Stock Exchange will be enlarged by another 10.
At the same time chairman Sobolewski stressed that the Warsaw Stock Exchange faces another major challenge this year – its privatization. If carried out as planned through issuing of shares and their clearance for trading it may be the most important event on the Polish capital market in 2010, he said.
