More Poles deciding to purchase new cars

New car sales increased 26.1% y/y, up 1.8% m/m to 25,773 units in May, market researcher Samar informed in a report.

According to Samar, the fact that the sales were likely lower due to long ‘weekend’ at the beginning of the month is a reason for optimism. The first week of May featured two holidays and many Poles took the entire week off.

In the first five months of the year, Poland’s car sales increased 25.4% y/y to 123,818, and, according to Samar, should the trend hold, the full year car sales could reach 260,000.

Since Poland joined the EU, used cars from the EU were a better option for most Poles than purchasing a new vehicle. As a result, automakers and dealers felt a pinch. Now that the economy is booming, new cars are becoming a more attractive option.
