Poland’s President Lech Kaczyński would mull introduction of the so-called spending rule in the public finance as a temporary solution but is skeptical towards the proposed reduction of military expenditure, Kaczyński said at a press conference.

“The rule increasing spending by 1% might have to be introduced for the coming period but as a long-term solution it is debatable,” Kaczyński said of one of the reform proposals presented to him by Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski.

Other proposals, such as limiting military expenditure “would be hard to conciliate with our obligations towards NATO” and “seems controversial,” Kaczyński said.

Minister Rostowski met with President Kaczyński yesterday to request his support for the presented set of reforms.

The so-called spending rule included in the governmental public finance consolidation and development plan assumes capping discretionary public spending increase to 1% annually.
