Poland road building speeds up?

A 1,200 km highway construction programme ahead of the Euro 2012 football championships kicks off in Poland this year.

There have never been so many roads built at the same time in Poland said head of the directorate Lech Witecki.

“This will be a major challenge for us, because this year we will be building three times as many roads as we did in 2009. And this means that the drivers will lose their patience as we will be the biggest construction site in Europe,” he told Polskie Radio.

The directorate is to spend about 30 billion zloty (over 7 billion euro) on the construction and reconstruction of roads in 2010.
