Project progress check

We have had a visit of a new customer on Saturday in our office.  Despite the fact that we had to make Pawel’s sons busy (playing games), so they don’t disturb us the conversation went fine. The man we have talked to was a great person with the attitude we both love.  What made me really surprised was that he told me about the portal where people can order outsourcing development services and have a screenshot of a developer every 10 minutes. That reminded me the story Pawel brought from CEBIT 2 years ago, where Philippines based company offered on-line access to developers’ screens.  Well – what a great sign of trust. And what great processes must be in use if the only (and the best) way to monitor the progress of the work is to monitor the screens of your team. Would people do the same if the hired teams at their locations? Of course that can’t work. Outsourcing does not mean going back to slavery.  It means getting the new extension of your team for a fixed or long time. Trust them, like them, work with them. Have a beer once a while. Work hard and enjoy successes. If that is the obvious truth, why people even look at vendors like that one I have mentioned?
