Poland is likely to join the euro zone in 2012, Finance Minister Zyta Gilowska said Monday.

“This is a question of a political will.” Gilowska said at a meeting with students at a Lublin university KUL. “If we had a referendum on the matter at the end of 2009, than we are taking up talks in 2010 and in 2012 we may be a member of euro zone states club.”

It is still not known how the euro zone entry would be affected by the organisation of the European football championship in 2012.

“No answer exists so far to such question,” Gilowska said . “I explain honestly that from the point of view of macroeconomic parametres, no obstacles should crop up.”

Gilowska reiterated she expects Poland ‘s GDP to be at least at 6% in 2007.
